What is AFNS?

First and foremost, let us inform you about the AFNS (Armed Forces Nursing Service) positions, which are exclusively available for women aspiring to join the nursing division of the Pakistan Army. Females who have completed their matriculation or intermediate (FA/FSc) can apply for AFNS. This presents a remarkable opportunity for women who aspire to serve in the nursing field within the Pakistani Army.

Regarding the salary scale for AFNS positions, the remuneration ranges from 22,700 Rupees to 365,000 Rupees, with the lowest and highest average salaries, respectively.

  • AFNS Online Registration 2024 Last Date: 13 March, 2024

The online registration for AFNS normally commence in the month of June but it may be started before as per requirements and policies. We strongly encourage interested candidates to apply for the Armed Forces Nursing Service before the specified deadline, as any applications received after that will not be accepted.

To be eligible for AFNS in the Pakistan Army, applicants must have a matriculation degree with a minimum of 60% marks in science subjects, as well as 50% marks in FSc (Pre-Medical). Additionally, candidates who have completed the first part of their FSc with a minimum of 50% marks can also apply by providing a hope certificate.

Candidates have the opportunity to join the AFNS course through two types of commissions, each with its own distinct procedures and eligibility criteria.

Types of AFNS Jobs as a Commissioned Officer

  1. B.Sc Nursing (Female) as a Permanent Regular Commission (PRC)
  2. Trained Nurse as a Lieutenant Through SSRC
  1. BSc Nursing for Females Permanent Regular Commission (PRC): The PRC offers a long-term commitment to the Pakistan Army. Candidates who meet the following eligibility criteria can apply for the AFNS through PRC:
  • Marital Status: Only unmarried females are eligible to apply.
  • Age: 17 to 25 Years (Candidates must fall within the age range specified by the authorities).
  • Height for Female B.Sc Nursing: 5 Feet (152cm)
  • Education: Matric with 60% Marks, and F.Sc (Pre-Medical) with at least 50% (Candidates who appeared recently in 2nd year examination, they must have HOPE certificate if they have at least 50% marks in first year)
  • Physical Standards: Candidates must meet the specified height and weight requirements.
  • Selection Process: The selection process includes written tests, interviews, medical examinations, and other evaluations.
  1. Trained Nurses as Lieutenant (Female) through Short Service Regular Commission (SSRC): The SSRC offers a shorter-term commitment to the Pakistan Army. Candidates who meet the following eligibility criteria can apply for the AFNS through SSRC:
  • Marital Status: Both unmarried and married females are eligible to apply.
  • Age: 18 to 28 Years (Candidates must fall within the age range specified by the authorities).
  • Height for AFNS Trained Nurse: 5′ (152cm)
  • Education: BSc Nursing or 03 Years Diploma with one Year Midwifery. Minimum educational qualifications and prerequisites must be met.
  • Physical Standards: Candidates must meet the specified height and weight requirements.
  • Selection Process: The selection process includes written tests, interviews, medical examinations, and other evaluations.

Intelligence Test: Be prepared for questions related to Verbal and non-verbal Intelligence tests.

English: Enhance your knowledge of synonyms, antonyms, prepositions, Direct and Indirect, Parts of Speech, Noun and Types of Noun, Pronoun and Types of Pronoun, Verb and Types of Verb, Adjectives and Types of Adjectives, Adverb and Types of Adverb, Preposition and Its Type, Conjunction and its Types, Interjection and its Types, Article and its Type, punctuation, vocabulary, idioms and phrases, correct use of tenses, Active and Passive Voice, fill in the blanks, grammar, analogy, spelling, and verbal and non-verbal aspects of the language.

Biology: Study topics such as living and non-living organisms, cell structure and function, plant physiology, animal physiology, reproduction in plants and animals, genetic basis of inheritance, origin and evolution of life, human disorders, ecology, and ecosystems.

Physics: Familiarize yourself with units and measurements, mechanics, heat transfer, vibrations and waves, light and sound, electricity and magnetism, and modern physics.

Chemistry: Focus on the atomic structure, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, states of matter, mixtures, solutions, and solubility, the gas laws, elements and compounds, the periodic table, important concepts of organic chemistry, and water and organic compounds in the environment.

2. Academic Portion for AFNS Female Trained Nurse as Lieutenant through SSRC:

Tests Pattern for BSc Female Trained Nurse as a Lieutenant:

  • Intelligence Tests (Total Questions: 84, Total Time: 30 Min, Pass mark: 50%)
  • Academic Tests (Total Questions: 100, Total Time: 40 Min, Pass Mark: 50%)

Tests Syllabus for Female Trained Nurse as a Lieutenant:

Intelligence Tests: In intelligence tests, questions are included related to Verbal Intelligence Tests and Non-Verbal intelligence tests. In non-verbal intelligence tests, again there are two types of questions which are from normal pictures and others are related to pattern questions.

Academic Tests: In academic paper, questions from matric to BSc are being included in mcqs form. It also include Basic to advance Biology subjects. Following subjects with past papers experiences MCQs are included in the academic test;

Eligibility Criteria in AFNS Selection

The Pakistan Army has established certain standards that serve as the basis for selecting females to join the organization. Only those females who meet these criteria will be eligible for admission into the Pakistan Army’s Armed Forces Nursing Services (AFNS). The eligibility criteria for AFNS are as follows:

  1. Marital Status:
    • Unmarried, separated, widowed, or divorced females without encumbrances are eligible to apply.
    • Trained nurses can be either married or unmarried.
  2. Age Requirements:
    • Untrained candidates must fall within the age range of 17-25.
    • Trained nurses must be between the ages of 18-28.
  3. Nationality:
    • Candidates must possess Pakistani nationality.
    • Domicile holders of Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir are also eligible.
    • Individuals with dual nationalities must renounce their non-Pakistani nationalities to be eligible to join the Pak Army.
  4. Height Requirement:
    • The candidate must have a height of at least 5 feet.
  5. Weight:
    • The weight must be within the range specified by the body mass index (BMI). (Check Weight)

Required Necessary Documents for AFNS

To be eligible for joining the Pakistan Army in the Armed Forces Nursing Service (AFNS) in 2023, you need to possess the original photocopies of the following documents:

  1. Educational Certificates/Degrees
  2. Domicile Certificate (Attested)
  3. No Objection Certificate (NOC), if currently serving in the Government Sector
  4. Three (3) Passport-size Photographs (Front/Back)
  5. National Identity Card (NIC) (New)
  6. A Postal Order of Rs. 100/- made out to the Director, General Personnel Administration (DGPA), General Headquarters (GHQ) Rawalpindi, Pakistan Army.

Having these documents ready will facilitate the application process and ensure that you meet the necessary requirements for joining the AFNS.

More Necessary Requirements of AFNS

BSc Nursing:

  • If a candidate is appearing for FSc Part-II examinations and has obtained 50% marks in the 1st year, they may submit a Hope Certificate signed by the Principal of the college/institute where they are studying.
  • Once the FSc Part-II results are announced, candidates must promptly submit their FSc results.

Trained Nurse:

  • Candidates must hold domicile of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa, or Gilgit-Baltistan.
  • Only candidates with a BSc in Generic Qual Nursing are eligible; diploma holders are not eligible.
  • It is mandatory for candidates to be registered with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC).
  • Candidates with post-basic specialized training, such as ICU, OT, CCU, from a PNC-approved hospital/institution will be given preference.

Additional Note for AFNS Selection

Training Period: BSc Nursing: Candidates selected for BSc Nursing will undergo a comprehensive four-year training program at prestigious institutions including AFPGMI Rawalpindi, CMH Lahore, CMH Kharian, CMH Multan, CMH Quetta, and PNS Shifa Karachi.

Trained Nurses: Candidates who have completed their nursing training will undergo a six-week basic military training program at AFPGMI Rawalpindi and CMH Kharian.

Note: Upon successful completion of the training, candidates will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.

Bond: All candidates who are selected for the AFNS program, regardless of the category, will be required to sign a warranty agreement committing to serve in the Army for a minimum period of ten years. This agreement must be signed before commencing the BSc Nursing training.

The training period is a crucial phase in preparing candidates for their roles in the Armed Forces Nursing Service. It equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge to serve effectively in their respective positions.

Upon successfully passing the interview process, fresh BSc Nursing students will have the opportunity to participate in a comprehensive four-year training program. This training program will be conducted at the following esteemed institutions:

  1. Armed Forces Post Graduate Medical Institute (AFPGMI), Rawalpindi
  2. Combined Military Hospital (CMH), Multan
  3. CMH, Lahore
  4. CMH, Kharian
  5. CMH, Quetta
  6. Pakistan Naval Ship (PNS) Shifa, Karachi

These institutions are renowned for their quality education and training facilities. During the four-year training program, students will receive rigorous academic instruction, practical experience, and exposure to various specialized areas of nursing.

This training will equip the students with the necessary skills, knowledge, and practical expertise to excel in their nursing careers and contribute effectively to the healthcare sector.

AFNS Ineligibilities

The following conditions render candidates ineligible for AFNS registration:

  1. Twice Rejected by ISSB: Candidates who have been rejected twice by the Inter-Services Selection Board (ISSB) are ineligible.
  2. Twice Screened Out by ISSB: Candidates who have been screened out twice by the ISSB are ineligible.
  3. Tested Within 120 Days (Four Months) Gap: Candidates who have appeared in the ISSB test within a gap of 120 days (four months) from their previous appearance are ineligible.
  4. Dismissed/Removed/Debarred from Government Services: Candidates who have been dismissed, removed, or debarred from any government service, including the Armed Forces, are ineligible.
  5. Convicted in a Court of Law: Candidates who have been convicted for any heinous offense by a court of law (to be determined by the competent military authority) are ineligible.
  6. Declared Permanently Unfit: Candidates who have been declared permanently unfit by the Appeal Medical Board (AMB) are ineligible.
  7. Medical Unfitness: Candidates who are medically unfit due to Hepatitis B & C are ineligible.
  8. Withdrawn on Disciplinary Grounds: Candidates who have withdrawn from any bonded Armed Forces college or any Armed Forces institution on disciplinary grounds are ineligible.
  9. Withdrawn/Discharged/Resigned/Purchase of Commission: Candidates who have withdrawn, discharged, resigned, or purchased a commission from any Armed Forces Officers Academy or Training Institution for any reason are ineligible.
  10. Already Registered with Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC): Candidates who are already registered with the Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC) in Islamabad are ineligible.
